Capturing the Spirit of Animals in Fine Art

I’m Ginny and I create highly detailed fine art portraits of animals, whether they are pets, horses, farm animals or wildlife, striving to capture their unique character and spirit. Each piece is carefully hand-drawn using coloured pencil, resulting in artwork that is lifelike and designed to celebrate the bond between people and the animals they love.

My soul connection and passion is for horses and it’s been there since childhood.  If you cut me in half, I’d have the word ‘horses’ running through me like a stick of rock! Whether it’s a sleepy, over the stable door picture or a classically elegant pose, there are so many parts to our horse’s personality that are all there waiting to be captured and put into artwork.

  • Pet Portraits

Where would we be without our closest pet friends? They give us so much love and are there for us through the good and the bad; they can drive us up the wall and bring us such happiness. I work with you to get that perfect portrait that captures the bond between you and your four-legged, or two-legged, friend, in artwork created carefully, thoughtfully, and with emotional meaning.

  • Other Animals

I’m very fortunate to have shared my life with lots of different animals and time spent in the company of cows or sheep is a beautiful thing. I’ve also worked with sheep, pigs, alpacas, goats and I’ve kept chickens, pet rats and guinea pigs too. I love them all and love to create paintings of them too. Each subject deserves patience, respect, character, warmth, and honest artistic attention.

The Artistic Process

I work from photographs to produce my realistic portraits.  Using the finest materials, I build each piece using layers of colour pencil to create depth and realism.  The result is a unique work of art that not only looks like your animal, but truly feels like them.

Hi, I’m Ginny

Hi, I’m Ginny, I’m a self-taught artist living on the Essex/Suffolk borders with my dogs and a selection of Shetland ponies.  I’ve been creating animal portraits for many years now.  It all started some years back when I met a friend’s miniature wirehaired dachshund, Hattie, and loved how much character there was in her wiry little face, so I laid on the floor and photographed her and that was my first colour pet portrait done in pastel pencil.   Many more beautiful animals have been brought to life on my drawing board since then but Hattie will remain special for starting me off.

Testimonials

Just a note to say thank you so much for the picture - we absolutely love it. Every time I look at it I see something more - the detail is brilliant.

— L & P

Dear Ginny I can’t thank you enough for the beautiful portrait of our beloved Alfie. You have completely captured his spirit and character and every time I look at it, I feel he is still here with us. His eyes are full of the love he showed us and his characterful face and stance are perfect. And all painted from a photograph and our description of his character. I’m humbled by your talent and obvious love of animals and immense desire to create an everlasting legacy. Thank you.

Equine Portraits

I have a lifelong love of horses and recently had the privilege of sitting on the champion Suffolk Punch, Lockspit Robert, and taking a between-the-ears photo with his raffia braiding in his mane. I loved the detail in all the braiding and I wanted to capture how special it is to be able to sit astride such a fabulous horse.
